Explanation of the Title: Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 61

(Last week we ended with, “For an average person, it is impossible. In that case, why? They have no training. It is one treating oneself wrongly. One without training, without this kind of analytical concept of the absence of inherent existence–being disillusioned with everything and let go of all. None. Not having someone teach this as a child; one’s parents, brothers, and sisters all are the same, there are a lot of secular ideas.”)

 

Today we explain the insight of all as the absence of inherent existence, the insight of all as unreal, and the middle way; these three together are the core of Prajna. If you know how to use it then essence, phenomenal characteristics and functions are already being used. To use essence, phenomenal characteristics and function to the extreme, it is the Three Bodies of Dharma, Transformation and Reward.

The Dharma Body is the essence.

The Reward Body is the phenomenal characteristics.

The Transformation Body is the function.

Then the Four kinds of wisdoms come forth. They are:

  1. The Great Mirror wisdom.
  2. The Wisdom of Equality.
  3. The Wisdom of Marvelous Observing Cognition.
  4.   The Wisdom of Perfect Achievement.

So, making steady progress incrementally to attain the stage of realization, this is an ordinary open way to explain. If you want to achieve speedily, arouse the vow to go and be born to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land. Reaching the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land after 3.5 to 4 days (Pure Land time), you become Buddha and become a Buddha in perfection. This matter is only known if you implement it yourself. It is useless even if I talk until I am blue in the face.  Why? People say this is myth. Even eminent monks and the most virtuous one of Zen Buddhism and other teaching sects would certainly not be convinced.

For example: in the school of Zen Buddhism, “to eradicate one grade of the unenlightened condition, to realize one grade of embodiment of truth (Dharma Body)”:  granted that one’s natural capacity is the superior of the most excellent faculties, other people normally speak the best of the best,  here I am referring to “the superior of the most excellent faculties”;  could this top quality one eradicate all 41 grades of the unenlightened conditions? Nobody knows. If one cannot eradicate all of the unenlightened conditions, then one cannot become a Buddha in perfection. However, common people who reach the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land the 41 grades of unenlightened condition have not been fully eradicated, we make use of the vow power of Amitabha, our enjoyment is the same as those who have already eradicated the 41 grades of unenlightened condition. The fundamentals are fully actualizing the three non-retrogressions – never receding from the position attained, from a right course of cultivation practice, and from pursuing a right line of mental discipline; this cognitive sphere is beyond the 8th Stage Bodhisattva (at 48th of the 52 cultivation tiers). Realistically, speaking more directly, it is the level of Absolute Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattva (Samyak-Sambodhi, the 11th Stage which is the 51st at the 52 cultivation tiers). What is the reason? All are titled Aparivartya Bodhisattva.

What does Aparivartya mean? In Sanskrit, it means one is non-retrogression (never retreating but going straight forward to nirvana). This is truly hard to believe; The Buddha speaks of Amitabha Sutra states:

This method of chanting Amitabha to enlightenment is an inconceivable method

Many people do not know; how did Shakyamuni Buddha become Buddha? Shakyamuni Buddha became Buddha by chanting Amitabha. He sat under the Bodhi tree and attained enlightenment by seeing the night stars, that is his manifestation in Eight Aspects of the Buddha’s life which is in generality. In reality, he chants Amitabha to become Buddha. Therefore, when he explains the Buddha speaks of Amitabha Sutra or the Infinite Life Sutra, light-emits at the top of the head.

Top of the head means light emitting from the whole body; it is dissimilar. Emission of light from the chest, it is dissimilar. Emission of light from the white tuft of hair between the eyebrows, it is dissimilar. Emission of light from top of the head, his whole body is infinite splendor; the unimpeded reflection over the outside and the inside. Ananda, his disciple and attendant who followed him all his life, had no idea and could not figure out why?

This emission of light is even brighter than all other Buddha’s light; extraordinary light-emission, why? He was going to explain the Amitabha Sutra. He was going to explain Bhiksu Fa-Zang (Amitabha’s Buddhist name) at his fundamental causal stage to becoming enlightened, and how Amitabha Buddha establishes the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land; this is the original intention of all Buddha. So, they are all especially happy, all Buddha are pleased then send out an illuminating ray.

This sphere which one of the fellow practitioners has seen it before, it is pure body and mind without defilement. This practitioner is an honest man, does not make mischief, no distract thought in his head. He saw it when he was reciting the Infinite Life Sutra and entered the sphere.  Because he recites every Sutra, he said: “Strange, precisely the moment I recite the Infinite Life Sutra then the perceptual objects are manifested, the brightness is exceptional strong”.  He has seen the splendor of Amitabha.

Shakyamuni Buddha and other Buddha all praise Amitabha:

The light emission of the highest revered one, the king of all Buddha.

The halo of Amitabha, ordinary even no emission of light, his halo is the brightest amongst all Buddha. His light scope is the widest and surpasses the guidance of all Buddha and Bodhisattvas. Amitabha’s guidance regions surpass all Buddha and Bodhisattva. He transcends the past, present and future. If the light emitting from Amitabha becomes different, surely there are beings that not only attain enlightenment, but also become Buddha in perfection, and Amitabha sends out an illuminating ray.

The purified mind in its nature state, they do not use language to communicate; the tool of communication is “light”. The Heaven realms above us communicate through light solely. The King of the Heavenly Realms once visited our world; when he was above North America, the upper altitude of the sky above North America showed a seven-color rainbow with rainbow clouds like waterfalls, like Niagara Falls with layers upon layers lingering over a very long time.  He only came here for a routine inspection. Why? He oversees ten billion Milky Way galaxies, and it is impossible within his life to be with everyone. He sends his subordinates to visit, referred to as angels by Western society, and even the energy of these angels is exceedingly.

今天講 (四 )     空、假、中三觀

 

(上星期講到: 一般人做不到。那為什麼?沒有訓練。很冤枉。就像我剛講他沒有訓練,沒有這種觀念,沒有這種析空的觀念 – 看破、放下。沒有。從小沒有人教,父母、兄弟、姊妹都是這樣,世俗觀念一大堆。)

 

「空觀、假觀、中道」,這三個合起來是「般若」的核心。你會用的話:「體、相、用」就用上了。「體、相、用」能用上到極致,就是「法、化、報」三身。法身是「體」,報身是「相」,化身是「用」;四種智慧就出來了:「大圓鏡智、平等性智、妙觀察智、成所作智」就出來。

所以循序漸進證得果位,這是一般通途講。你要快,發願往生極樂世界。到極樂世界三天半四天,就成佛了,圓滿成佛。我講三天半四天,是極樂世界的三天半四天。這個事,只有你自己實行才知道。講破嘴沒有用。為什麼?人家說這神話。宗門教下這些高僧大德都不相信。

例如禪宗,「破一品無明,證一分法身」。就算他根性「上上上」,人家是講「上上根」,我是講「上上上」;能不能破盡四十一品無明?不知道。如果不行,沒有圓滿成佛。不過我們凡夫到極樂世界,「四十一品無明」都不用破,乘阿彌陀佛願力,受用跟破「四十一品無明」一樣。最基本是「圓證三不退」:位不退、行不退、念不退;這是「八地」以上,實際講的更直接「十一地等覺」。因為什麼?都是「阿鞞跋致」。

「阿鞞跋致」是什麼意思?這梵語,是不退轉。 這事難信,《彌陀經》講「難信之法」!

很多人都不知道釋迦牟尼佛,怎麼成佛? 釋迦牟尼佛是「念佛」成佛的。他菩提樹下,夜睹明星,那是示現「八相成道」,是一般性;真正講,他是「念佛」成佛的。所以他講《彌陀經》的時候,講《無量壽經》的時候,頂門放光。

頂門是全身放,不一樣。胸口放,不一樣。白毫相放,不一樣。頂門放不一樣;他全身無量光明,影暢表裡。阿難跟他一輩子都不知道。看了半天都不知道是為什麼?

這個放光,比一切諸佛的光還要強;特別放光,為什麼?要講《彌陀經》了。要講「法藏因地」。講阿彌陀佛怎麼建極樂世界、造極樂世界;是「諸佛本懷」。特別歡喜,諸佛歡喜就放光。

這境界以前有同修看到過,那是身心清淨,一塵不染。平常老老實實的,也不作怪,腦筋裡沒有什麼雜念。他看到,他是念《無量壽經》的時候進入境界。因為他每本經都念,他說:「奇怪,就是念《無量壽經》的時候境界現前,光特別強。」看到阿彌陀佛的光。

釋迦牟尼佛、諸佛讚歎阿彌陀佛,「光中極尊,佛中之王」!阿彌陀佛的「常光」,就是平常不放光,他的光是一切諸佛裡面最強的。他的範圍最大,超越一切諸佛菩薩的教化。教化的區域也超過。過去、現在、未來也超過。如果阿彌陀佛放光不一樣,一定是眾生得渡,而且圓滿成佛,佛放光。

法界不是用語言溝通,法界是以「光」來溝通。光是我們上面天界就是以「光」來溝通。天界的天王到我們世界上來,他曾經來過北美,北美上空七彩,彩虹雲,像瀑布,像尼加拉瀑布一層一層的,久久不散。他不過來巡視一下看看。為什麼?他管一百億個銀河系,可能一生都到不了。他派他下面的這些所謂我們西方人講的天使來看一看,那個能量都不得了。
