Explanation of the Title: Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 65

(Last week we ended with, “The difference of one grade is a difference of miles. To say nothing of us now, never mind this one grade of the unenlightened condition, we are unable to let go one grade of affliction of the common human world.”)

 

Practicing cultivation a person cannot say there is no hope. If a person has a wish to practice cultivation it can still be done. However, wishing for it needs to continue and you still need to repeatedly practice genuinely and implement it for it to be useful.

In the world of Hua-Yan (Avatamsa – Buddha world), there are so many Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattvas (Samyak-Sambodhi) wishing to bring to perfection the state of   Buddhahood, what should they do?

Pu-Xian Bodhisattva (Samantabhadra) is the manifestation of Vairocana Tathagata, whereby his vow and performing the discipline of the vow involved as the representation.

Pu-Xian Bodhisattva (Samantabhadra) persuades and leads all the Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattvas and all the Mahasattvas (great beings) with Dharma Body to go back to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land. 

He encourages them to arouse the vow to go and be born to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land. Reaching the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land and its energy naturally helps one to become Buddha in perfection. Their last unenlightened condition—the fundamental worry as the first thought activation of unenlightened and confusion will be destroyed once one sees the light-emission of Amitabha; one will have full realization as easy as blowing off dust. Otherwise, to rely on one’s own strength to achieve this is difficult, extremely difficult.

Then you say, does the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land create for the Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattvas (Samyak-Sambodhi) mainly? No, it does not. The Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land what is its true initiative? It is for us – the common ones, for all beings who are troubled by life and death. Truly, it is for us – the reincarnation world, re-emphasizing it really for the beings of the Three evil destinies (animal, hungry ghost, hell), not just the human world; particularly for beings of the hell world.

The hell world is a spectacular view. All of you may have not been to the hell world, or maybe one has been there before also do not have a memory of it. The hell world is in our dimensional space situated both under the ground and in the space. The pain of the hell world is hard to imagine; the human world does not have that kind of pain. The worst pain of the human world is a dismembered body into ten thousand pieces but the suffering in the hell world is not only that, they will tear you limb from limb every second. For how long? For infinite existence of world-periods. One world-period is 1,344,000,000 Earth years. So, it is the boundless world-periods multiplied by the infinite world-periods, “infinite” is calculable; however, “boundless” is incalculable.

If one ends in the hell world, you are tormented physically and mentally. Why? It is caused by your attachments.

If the hell world beings have a thought-moment about Amitabha and arise a thought of the pure mind, one can then go to the Bliss World of Amtiabha Pure Land. There is a friend of mine whom I met more than 10 years ago, he still retains some memories of hell, and he recalled that he degenerated to the hell world in his previous lifetime.

He stated, “That kind of pain was indescribable.”

Guan-Yin Bodhisattva (Avalokitesvara) went to save him, she manifested before him and said, “You recite the Great Compassion Mantra all day long, how come you do not recite it now”.

Instantly he remembered the Great Compassion Mantra:

“Nan-Mo Huo-La Da-Na Duo-La Yeh-Yeh, Nan-Mo O-Li-Yeh”.

He recited and then the hell world was broken, and he transmigrated and re-entered the womb back to Earth again.

I met with him in this life plus many other followers of mine from previous lives. No one understands him, until he ran into me again, I am very clear about his conditions.

I asked, “Are you going continue to reincarnate again in this life? ”

He said, “No more, I keep my mind chanting Amitabha to go and be born to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land.”

Basically, people like him are exceedingly many in this world. It all depends on whether one can arise a thought, “No need to mess around again in this life and no need to hold on to have more fun, had better to go back to one’s roots, in there to recover one’s inherent life essence of purity, equality, enlightenment and compassion.” The essence represents the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land, the fundamental essence of our life radiance is the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land. So, it turns out that we are Amitabha originally. Our origin is infinite brightness, infinite wisdom and infinite lifespan.

Therefore, in the first Sutra of Buddhism – the Flower Adornment Sutra, why does it guide all back to Amitabha Pure Land? Its function is here, from this group of Mahasattva (great being) with Dharma body – the ocean-assembly of the Buddha to perform. Even the Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattvas (Samyak-Sambodhi) like Guan-Yin (Avalokitesvara), Da-Shi-Zi (Great- Strength – Mahasthamaprapta), Wen-Shu (Manjushri) and Pu-Xian (Samantabhardra) all want to go to the Bliss World of Amitabha Pure Land, let alone us, the common ones. This is their performance.

(四 )     空、假、中三觀

(上星期講到: 那個差一分就差多了。何況我們現在,不要說一分「無明」,連一品普通人間煩惱都放不下。)

修行不能說今天講沒有希望,抱個希望修行還可以,不過希望要持續,還要真修實行才有用。

最後華嚴世界,這麼多等覺菩薩希望快快成就佛果,怎麼辦?

普賢菩薩是毘盧遮那如來變現,以願行為代表。普賢菩薩勸一切等覺、一切法身大士導歸極樂世界。勸他們發願到極樂世界,到極樂世界自然的能量成佛圓滿。最後一品生相無明,只要見到彌陀放光就破了,完全證到,不費吹灰之力。不然憑自己力量,難,太難!

那你說極樂世界是不是只為等覺?不是。

極樂世界真正發心是為什麼? 是為我們凡夫,為生死煩惱眾生。可以真正講是為我們六道;再講其實為三惡道眾生 – 不僅人間,為三惡道,尤其為地獄道眾生。

「地獄」可是洋洋大觀,各位可能沒有到過地獄,以前去過也忘記了。地獄道在我們這個空間,在地下、在空間都有。地獄道那痛苦,人間是沒有嚐過。人間了不起碎屍萬段。地獄道痛苦不是的,碎屍萬段,分分秒秒。多久?     無量劫。一劫是十三億四千四百萬年。無量,無量劫的無邊劫,無量還可以算,無邊就不能算,算不出來了。

一到地獄道,受折磨,精神肉體受折磨。為什麼?是執著造的。

地獄道眾生,有一念想起彌陀名號,能生一念淨心,他就到極樂世界去了。十幾年前認識一個朋友,他還有記憶體,他前生墮入到地獄道。

他說:「那個痛苦無法形容。」

觀音菩薩去渡他,觀音菩薩現前說:「你一天到晚念《大悲 咒》,現在怎麼不會念了?」

一想起來《大悲咒》:「南無喝囉怛那哆囉夜耶,南無阿唎耶」  一念,好了,地獄道破掉了。轉身投胎到了地球,回來了。

我們這一世,還碰到面,過去世的徒子、徒孫,碰到面。沒有人了解他,就碰到我,我曉得,我心裡很清楚。

我說:「你這一生還要搞輪迴?」

回答:「不敢搞了,安心念佛往生極樂世界。」

基本上,像這樣的人多得不得了。就看這一生能不能起一個念頭: 人生不需要再去搞了,不要再玩了,還是回老家。在那裡恢復清淨、平等、覺悟、慈悲的生命原來的本體。本體以極樂世界為代表,我們生命光明的本體就是極樂世界。我們原來就是阿彌陀佛,我們原來就是無量光明、無量智慧、無量壽命,原來就是這樣。

所以《華嚴經》佛家第一經,為什麼要導歸極樂?它的作用在這裡,由這一群法身大士,諸佛海會來表演。連等覺菩薩 – 觀音、勢至、文殊、普賢,都要到極樂世界去,何況我們凡夫。這是表演。
