Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 10

[Series of Master Shen-Long expounding on the Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom) Heart Sutra]

Now every one of us are in a dream where is a person talking about Prajna (wisdom), to which everyone listens to it and all of this is stored in the memory bank. You need to break through this phenomenon, your mind needs to be in the state of control; at least to be unmoved to a certain extent – this is very important.

This kind of stillness of mind control we have just mentioned is to relax always. This kind of relax we need to learn, first through the body, from your way of sitting, your attitude of speaking, the words you speak; your eyes, ear, nose, tongue, body produces “sight, sound, smell, taste, touch”, idea (thought) and consciousness must be motionless.

If you feel bored, it shows your rejection of this dream.

If you feel excited, you still have attachment to this dream.

If you feel you are without choice, you misunderstand this dream.

What kind of misunderstanding? It is the unenlightened condition, where you do not familiar with it.

This is all phenomena. Our minds offer answers to us every second. Our minds are too rough; therefore, the average person does not realize. Cultivation practice is not just practice in the Monastery that is only one method. Just like the cultivation of Samadhi, it is unnecessary to be in a seated position. Practicing cultivation is doing at your activating the mind with arising thought. When the mind activates with arising thought under the state of being unmoved, then the level of your mind unmoved is higher than the “Total eight meditations of four Dhyana (Zen) heavens from both the Form Realms and the Formless Realms”. This kind of meditation state is still meditative action made by man and it has a pattern to abide by. If it is “unconditioned meditation”, (“unconditioned” is a term referring to anything that transcends conditioned existence in the state of our world), it will be outstanding, too profound, and today we do not talk about this “unconditioned meditation” for the time being. It is because everyone here cannot feel it with their hands, and this kind of “unconditioned meditation” is cultivated by one after having eradicated the unenlightened condition to become Mahasattva with embodiment of the truth as the Great Bodhisattvas, like Guan-Yin Bodhisattva (Avalokitesvara), Pu-Xian Bodhisattva (Samantabhadra), Wen-Shu Bodhisattva (Manjushri) – this class of figures who do so effortlessly to achieve the enlightenment leading to nirvana. This is too difficult for the average person, there is no way to imagine this; it is inconceivable state.

Today, we only talk about the environment of our current mind, how to stabilize your inner mind, how to let you have less worry, even to the extent of how to face your death.

As I have just mentioned what is the direct condition of it?  It is just like a searchlight that shines over everything.

It is like sunlight that penetrates the Earth. Now there is a problem, you do not let it shine on you, you open an umbrella or run into the house. Your mind is not open; this is the problem. Nowadays every one of us talks about privacy, this is a serious problem. If you have privacy (secrets), it means your mind exists with variation.

What kind of variation? You are unable to think with clarity and cannot be disillusioned with some areas, which is where the problem is.

其實現在我們每一人都在做夢,夢裡有所謂有個人在講「般若」,大家在聽,都儲存在意識裡面。

剛剛我講過,你要突破這個現相,你的心要在「定」當中。定到一個程度,這個很重要的。

那這個「定」剛剛說過了,時時刻刻要放鬆。這個「鬆」我們要學,先從「身」做起,就是你坐的姿勢,你講話的態度,你的語言,你的「眼、耳、鼻、舌、身」,「色、聲、香、味、觸」,意跟識不要動。

你如果覺得無聊,那表示說你對這個夢有排斥。

如果你覺得興奮,你時這個夢有執著。

如果你覺得無奈,你時這個夢有誤解。

什麼誤解?無明,不瞭解。

這些都是現象,就是我們的心分分秒妙都提供答案給自己。我們的心太粗糙了,所以一般人不瞭解。修行不是到寺院,那只是一個方法。就像參禪不一定坐著。修行是在起心動念中修,起心動念要在定中。那這個「定」講得直接一點,不止「四禪八定」- 這還是「有為的定」,是有方式可循的。如果是「無為的定」,那不得了,太深了。我們今天暫時不說這個無為的定,因為這個無為的定,大家都摸不到。這種無為的定,是破無明以後的法身大士們他們修的 – 像觀音菩薩、普賢菩薩、文殊菩薩這一類的大菩薩,這些人叫「無功用道」。這個太難了,這個對一般人來說,是沒有辦法想像的,不可思議的。

今天我們只講我們當前處的這個環境中,怎麼把你的內心穩定,怎麼讓你的擔憂少一點,甚至於怎麼面對你的死亡。

我剛剛講直接的狀態是什麼?就像探照燈,沒有一個地方照不到。

就像這個太陽光,穿透這個地球。現在有個問題,你不讓它照,太陽出來你打個傘,或著是逃到屋裡。你的心不開,這個麻煩。現在我們每個人都講所謂「隱私權」,這個問題嚴重。如果你有隱私,表示你的內心有變化。

什麼變化?你有些地方想不通,看不破,就這個問題。
