Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 8

Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 8

[Series of Master Shen-Long expounding on the Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom) Heart Sutra]

Let me talk about this further in-depth:  I just mentioned “Cessation Insight”; what is it? It is when you see all people, events, places, objects; your mind and body does not have any fluctuations.

When you see a person, your mind is completely without fluctuation, and then you are very clear about what this person is thinking. This ability, speaking honestly, is something you have never lost; the problem is that you have not used it. Our mind is very strange; when we try to handle a matter, it varies from person to person however, we all have experienced the following situations of being fickle and impatient, being wishful and demanding. While this is unpleasant to hear, we all have greediness and are reluctant to give up – this is precisely where the problem is.

If you have no greed and know the impossibilities but continue to persevere, I congratulate you!  You have finally set one foot forward and taken one step forward – a step towards enlightenment. For instance:

To make money, do I not compete with others? Do I not argue with others? Yes, you must do that. But you do not use the thought of greed to argue, and you do not use a competitive mind to argue.

Then many people will ask, since it is this way, what do I make money for?

It is because people normally outdo each other intentionally and so they are puzzled by it, either they go beyond the bounds of what is right or lose interest in their driving force. Therefore, living in the world, everyone has a different way of thinking and looking at things, which also means each person has different attachments and delusional thought; that is, each person has different dreams. If we manage those different conditions and after we are clear with it, then you control this dream. We need to practice cultivation to correct our way of thinking, doing and looking at things; this is very important.

Therefore, today we are speaking of Prajna (wisdom); if you can use a method to calm your mind, to have your mind be unmoved by any phenomena to a certain extent, then so-called Prajna can also be manifested.

How to be calm?

How to have stillness of mind control?

In general, there are many ways, such as cultivation to Samadhi (the highest level of mind unmoved and undisturbed) through exploring and study Dhyana (Zen) meditation, practicing esoteric cultivation and chanting Amitabha. People need to think about which method best fits them. If none of them fits, then I encourage you to take 10 minutes every day in your house either laying down or sitting up or standing, it does not matter what posture you are in, to relax and not think about anything. The average person is unable to do this; one cannot even do it for one minute, let alone ten minutes.

Why is it that one cannot do it? One does not have this kind of habit.
