Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 2

[Series of Master Shen-Long expounding on the Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom) Heart Sutra]

Shakyamuni Buddha stated that:

Buddha cannot help people who do not have predestined affinity like those who have no interest in Buddha’s teachings.

What is the natural affinity? It is the requirement.

If you do not want to have enlightenment, he will not come. At that time, people wanted eagerly to attain enlightenment, and to resolve this problem of birth and death; therefore, Buddha appeared. After appearing, Buddha resided in this world for 49 years, and he spent 22 years talking about Prajna (wisdom).

Why is this so important?

Wisdom is very intriguing; it’s like a person who has all five sense organs, but without eyes. Prajna is the eyes; the eyes lead you to see all phenomena clearly, and this way you can enter the true facts of the universe.

This kind of wisdom is represented by “light”, which is a loose substitute for it.

Therefore, we constantly mention that Buddha Bodhisattva emits light, what is the light? It penetrates all; to employ this manner represents the ability of Prajna.

Everyone has this ability. How come we have lost it today? It is because our minds are too chaotic.

From the moment, we wake up every day until nighttime, it is as though we are having a dream, a dream that will just not end.

What are dreams? It is your distracting thoughts and delusional thoughts.

We are constantly unaware of these kinds of distracting thoughts and delusional thoughts, why are we not aware? Our minds are too rough.

If presently you have a bit skill, what kind of skill? Your mind can activate direct observation and be crystal clear. When you have this skill, on the outside you can be joyous enjoying every day eating, sleeping and having tea. Other people cannot perceive it, but your inner being is crystal clear. Whatever other people think, activating whatever kind of idea, you are completely clear. I reluctantly say that this is a supernatural ability, but in fact, it is not. It is a function you have after you have purified of defiling illusions. This is like Prajna, and while it is very close to it, it is not the same.

Why?  You still have the “Ego – I”.

佛也講:「佛不度無緣之人」。

什麼是緣?條件。

你不想覺悟,他絕對不來。而當時的人很想覺悟、很想解決這個切身的生死問題,所以佛就出現。出現以後,佛住世四十九年,他其中有二十二年是講「般若」這兩個字,講了二十二年。

為什麼那麼重要?

智慧很奇妙的,就像一個人五官俱全,全部都有;沒有眼睛。

「般若」就是眼睛。眼睛帶你把一切事相看清楚,由這個方式進入宇宙的真相。

這麼一種智慧,我們勉強用「光」來代替。我們常常講「佛菩薩放光」,「光」是什麼?穿透一切,用這種方式,代表般若的能力。

而這個能力每個人都有,我們今天為什麼都失去了?心太雜亂。

每一天早上一起來,不要說起來,可能每天晚上都做夢,夢就是不斷。

夢是什麼?雜念妄想。

這種雜念妄想我們常常不知覺,為什麼不知覺?你的心太粗了。

如果你今天稍有一點功夫,什麼叫功夫?就是你的心能起「觀照」。

「觀」就是直接地觀察。「照」就是清清楚楚。有這功夫的時候,你表面上嘻嘻哈哈,好像每一天吃飯睡覺喝茶,別人是感覺不到的,但是你的內心清清楚楚。別人想什麼、起什麼念頭,你一清二楚。這個勉強說是神通,實際上不是。實際上是你清淨以後的一種作用。這個就跟「般若」很像,但是相似,非常接近,但是不是「般若」。

為什麼?你還有「我」。
