20 Feb Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 27
[Series of Master Shen-Long expounding on the Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom) Heart Sutra]
(This week continues the explanation Bodhisattva has perfect insight of being the master of one’s self.)
What kind of person is a Bodhisattva [who] has perfect insight of being master of one’s self?
A Bodhisattva has perfect insight of being master of one’s self, to say the least, is someone like Guan-Yin Bodhisattva (Avalokitesvara). An Absolute Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattva (Samyak-Sambodhi attained the 51st of the 52 cultivation tiers), who is equivalent to Buddha and one remains one last grade of the unenlightened condition or fundamental worry such as the first thought activation of un-enlightenment and confusion.
Why one does not eradiate this one last grade of the unenlightened condition?
Speaking truthfully, why one keeps this last grade of unenlightened condition? If they eradicate this last grade of the unenlightened condition, then they will have no more contact with living beings, for they will be in the state of Nirvana.
This “state of Nirvana” is to live in the endless spiritual source of all things eternally, and they will have no connection with our dream. Therefore, the Absolute Universal Enlightenment Bodhisattva (Samyak-Sambodhi) are very compassionate but it does not mean that one cannot eradicate the last grade. But one would rather not eradicate the last grade, so they can be in our dream to help us attain enlightenment. With regards to Guan-Yin Bodhisattva (Avalokitesvara), regardless from which religious school, very few have not heard of Guan-Yin Bodhisattva. Guan-Yin Bodhisattva is number one in the public consciousness, and Amitabha is number two. In other religions, there are none who do not know about Jesus Christ, this shows their deep affinity with all living beings.
Guan-Yin Bodhisattva represents infinite compassion and infinite mercy, where “infinite” means boundless. Therefore, ancient people have said:
Have unconditioned mercy towards one that do not have natural affinity; to have unconditioned compassion is to look upon all as having the same Buddha-nature.
It means that even if people do not have a natural affinity with you, you treat them equally. To have unconditioned compassion is to look upon all as having the same Buddha-nature is the same as saying that we are all from the same source in the universe.
Some people say the source of the universe is called “God”, others say the source of universe is called “Buddha-nature” – they are the same thing.
Who controls you? You are in control of it, no one else can control.
In the Bible, it says:
God creates the world.
Truthfully speaking, it is you who does the creation.
People without wisdom cannot see the true facts about the universe, and therefore have a vague concept of this.
How do you know it is vague? If your mind has been purified of defiling illusion up to that level, and you will see all the worlds in the Milky-Way galaxy crystal clear.
Who can see it? Shakyamuni Buddha already saw it a long time ago.
Therefore, he speaks about the condition of the universe clearly, and he left us 5,000 volumes of the Tripitaka which talks about the true facts of life in the universe – this is very important.
This can be proven, why is it that so many people through practice cultivation to Samadhi (the highest level of the mind unmoved and undisturbed) can know the past, present and future?
Many people, when looking at a person, can know a person’s way of thinking, looking, and doing, even to the extent of other related materiality. There is no other reason; it is that one has already recovered one’s undefiled capability of Buddha-nature. Looking at those people who truly practice cultivation:
You asked the one: “Do you have a supernatural ability?”
One would tell you: “No.”
You ask one, who answer everything with no. Does one answer correctly? Yes.
Why is it correct? Originally there exists nothing. So, all ideas are from yourself. It is not that he does not want to tell you.
Buddhism mentions the phrase “cannot talk”; it does not mean that something cannot be said, rather there is no way to describe with words. There is no way to describe the function of your pure fundamental essence.
