Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra, Part 41

[Series of Master Shen-Long expounding on the Prajna Paramita (Perfection of Transcendent Wisdom) Heart Sutra]

(Last week we ended with, “What is wisdom? It is when the mind is like a mirror that can reflect everything in clarity and one can see things clearly, and certainly does not arise with afflictions and doubt. In that case then it is correct.”)

Therefore, the life of modern people come in three kinds:

  1. Worried about worthless things.
  2. Sleep is forever not enough.
  3. Eat, drink and being merry – one does not abandon the self to a life of pleasure.

Where do these three phenomena come from? One incapable to master the life in the universe. This is a big problem.

Today the purpose of explaining the Heart Sutra is to wish all of you can throw out your worries a bit, using way at peace with oneself to look at this society. Speaking secular way is being rational, when your moodiness is in charge, you are in trouble.

What is the condition of rationality? When one’s rationality reaches 100% in charge that precisely is Prajna (wisdom). Therefore, he says here:

Omniscient penetrative ability with crystal clear perception that all nature of the FiveSkandhas are absent of inherent existence. So, release oneself from all obstructionscaused by suffering and misfortune.

So, these Five Skandhas (the five composition elements of our existence); are all unreal. Seeing things this way means you release oneself from all obstructions caused by suffering and misfortune. It indicates that all your afflictions are gone, and empty. Therefore, the Great Master Yong-Jia at his moment of enlightenment as when he truly sees the truth about the universe, made this statement:

In a dream, there was undoubtedly the six forms of transmigrations, but after enlightenment there is nothing in it and the boundless universe has all disappeared.

In dream there exists the six forms of transmigrations; what are they? They are the phenomena of “birth, aging, sickness and death”, “virtue and evil”, “good and bad”. However, if you want to perform in the dream it is fine, but after you awake from the dream, you and the dream are no longer related. This kind of situation I trust everyone has experienced.

Why can you not generate any function from this experience? You are pulled back by your immanent worldly concept, back to your current situation.

Therefore, we have practiced cultivation for a long while, for 40 to 50 years even, and have remained the same. We are pulled back by our worldly way of thinking, looking at things, worry, fear, and so forth. The people in the world have three troubles: 1. money, 2. greed, and 3. life and death.

If you can resolve life and death, then there is no problem with the prior two.

If you resolve money and greed, there is life and death still to resolve.

If you remove greedy thoughts, may be having opportunity to resolve life and death, also money can be resolved.

All of you must not misunderstand, I am not telling all of you not to make money; rather when making money without a greedy mind. Your mind is clear and without pressure, you are purified of defiling illusion also do not bring any distress to the counterpart; then it is the real thing. If you can use this concept to face your life and death, then life and death to you is merely an illusory dream.

所以現代人的生活,有三種:

  • 無事煩。
  • 睡眠永遠不足。
  • 吃、喝、玩、樂,沒有終斷。

這三個怎麼來的?對人生宇宙無法掌握,這大問題。

我們今天講【心經】的目的,希望大家能夠把自己的煩惱拋開一點。用心如止水的方式,去看這個社會。如果講世俗,理智一點;你是情緒作主的時候,你很麻煩。

所以理智的狀態是什麼?理智到了百分之百,就是我們常常講的「般若」。所以他說:「照見五蘊皆空,度一切苦厄。」這「五蘊」都是假的,你這個叫「度一切苦厄」。表示說:一切煩惱都沒有了,完全空空如也。

所以永嘉大師證道的時候,真正見到宇宙真相時候,他講過:「夢中明明有六趣,覺後空空無大千。」夢裡真的有六道輪迴。

什麼叫「六道」?生、老、病、死,善、惡、好、壞。夢裡怎麼演都可以,可是你覺醒了;夢裡跟你了不相關。這個狀態,我相信每個人都有一點點經驗。

這個經驗為什麼不能發生作用?他又被你固有的世俗觀念拉回去了。又回到現狀。

所以,我們常常修行,修個半天,修個四、五年還是老樣子。又被世俗的想法、看法、擔心、害怕又拉回去。所以,世間人有三大麻煩:第一,錢。第二,貪。第三,生死。

如果你解決生死,那前面兩個就不須要。

如果你解決前面的,那你還有一個生死。

如果你把貪念拿掉了,可能生死有機會解決,錢也可以解決。

大家千萬不要誤會,我不是叫大家不要賺錢,而是賺錢的時候,心不要貪。你的心清楚,沒有壓力;自己清,也不帶给對方煩惱,那就是真的了。你能用這樣的觀念去面對生死,那生死對你而言是一場幻夢。
